MY SINCERE APOLOGIES...I have had a bit of a loss of creativity and just not have the means to blog! Now it seems I have come down with a cold and so I am not feeling so hot. Don't give up on me, I will be back in no time! Happy Hump Day!

Tomorrow's the Day
running shoes...check
athletic apparel...check
a smile...check
running buddy...check
ability to run 5k....ahhhhhhh still not ready!
Tomorrow I meet my running buddy for Girls on the Run! I am super excited, but super nervous about my running ability (aka lack thereof). I was told that I would be partnered with walker/slow jogger so I am hoping they are going to stick to their word. I am thrilled to begin this new journey because if I can help encourage a young girl to have strong self-esteem and know the importance of a healthy lifestyle, it might eventually rub off on me. Why do I get so eager to help others escape from the disease, yet I can't seem to save myself????
Wish me luck tomorrow, many prayers needed!
XOXO,
JM

Please Take Seriously
Did you know...
Fat Talk describes all of the statements made in everyday conversation that reinforce the thin ideal and contribute to women's dissatisfaction with their bodies. Examples of Fat Talk include: "I'm so fat," "Do I look fat in this?", "I need to lose 10 pounds" and "She's too fat to be wearing that swimsuit." Statements that are considered Fat Talk don't necessarily have to be negative; they can seem positive yet reinforce the need to be thin — "You look great! Have you lost weight?"

** stats and information found on www.aed.org
- 81% of 10-year-olds are afraid of being fat?
- 70 million people worldwide are suffering with eating disorders?
- As many as 10 million females are suffering from anorexia or bulimia. That's more than are suffering from breast cancer.
- More than 2/3 of women ages 18-25 would rather be mean or stupid than be fat and over 50% would rather be hit by a truck.

Tears from Heaven
Today is a sad day for our family. My grandmother's dearest friend and a beloved favorite of mine lost her battle with cancer last night. She was a woman with style, grace, and an unbelievable faith. She is looking down on us now and is not suffering any longer. I am so thankful for all of her prayers and concern for me. Joby, you will truly be missed...

Christmas wish list...
Oh boy! Christmas is only two months away and the chill is in the air. This is usually about the time I get into the holiday spirit and secretly watch Miracle on 34th Street and want to pull out the decorations. I am thinking this year our family opt for a wintry vacation instead of gifts....

"Fat Talk Free" Week
Get ready gals..."Fat Talk Free" Week 2009 is coming up! During the week of October 19th-23rd, Tri-Delta and AED unite for my most passionate cause! The week is a body activism campaign that draws attention to body image issues and the damaging impact of the thin ideal on women in society.
Everyday I struggle with the image I see in the mirror. I want more than anything to promote positive body image and self-awareness to girls of all ages. Even though my poor self-image has had devastating effects on my life, I want to make a difference by putting an end to the "thin ideal" that is portrayed in the media, celebrities, and the pressures put on women to look a certain way.
Join me in the fight and pledge for if only one week only to end FAT TALK!

Headlights...
Tonight, my Mom and I had the most horrific encounter. Today we spent the day with our dear friend Tracy (you must attend Sew Simply Academy if ever in the Asheville area!) and on the way home while traveling down the saluda grade, I saw headlights coming straight at us! There was a car going south in the northbound lanes of interstate 26. God was looking out for us because luckily there was no car in the right hand lane so I was able to swerve without hitting traffic. My mom and I both almost were sick to our stomachs...
On the way home, I realized that only by the grace of God were my mother and I (and Lola too) alive. I also started thinking about how quickly our lives can be taken away. One minute we are laughing and singing to the radio, while the next minute it could disappear in an instant! We need to cherish each moment we spend with our family and friends. I am so thankful that we made it home safely and also grateful for moments that remind me to count my many blessings.
XOXO,
JM

Double Doozie
I'm back again today! I have to share what I just stumbled upon. Girls on the Run is an amazing non-profit organization for girls ages 8 to 13. The goal of the program is fewer adolescent pregnancies and eating disorders, less depression and suicide attempts, and fewer substance/alcohol abuse problems and confrontations with the juvenile justice system. The program encourages girls to develop self-respect, a positive body-image, and a healthy lifestyle. Even though I am a little out of the age range, sign me up! Next event in Spartanburg is November 14th at Converse at 10am. Who wants to run with me?
